All Justin Timberlake meme jokes aside, today is the first day of May. Sure, that might not mean much to a lot of people, but to me, it marks the start of a new challenge.
I am challenging myself to write at least one song every day in May.
I started doing this unintentionally in April and came close to filling up the whole month, but every once in a while I would miss a day of writing for one reason or another. Because of that, I am determined to make the next four and a half weeks really count.
No, it won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
May is already shaping up to be a busy month, with a lot of extra work hours in this first week followed by some exciting travel in the middle. That’s what makes these next 31 days so great.
There will never be a perfect time to follow your dreams, and your goals will never come easily. It is best to just buckle down and get started, full speed ahead. It is what we learn from the tough stretches of time that shape us as artists and people. By simply accomplishing a challenge like this, I will not only have a new notebook full of songs, but I will also have the knowledge and experience that comes from such difficult creative work.
No more excuses. May has already started, so let’s get writing.
